Midwest Brain Injury Clubhouse

A Clubhouse is first and foremost a community of people.

Much more than simply a program, or a social service, a Clubhouse is most importantly a community of people who are working together toward a common goal. Through participation in a Clubhouse people are given the opportunities to rejoin the worlds of friendships, family, important work, employment, education, and to access the services and supports they may individually need.
Work is healing!

Members participate in what is called the Work-Ordered Day. This means that the members and staff work side by side to complete the daily operations of the Clubhouse.

  1. Business Unit – This Unit is responsible for completing all the administrative work such as typing, copying, faxing and answering the telephones. Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet are skills that are taught during this process. Members also publish a monthly and quarterly newsletter. Morning meetings are held at 9:15 a.m. to distribute jobs and begin the day.
  2. Kitchen Unit – This Unit is responsible for planning the menu, preparing the lunch and running the snack bar. We focus on healthy and innovative menus.
  3. Education & Employment Unit – This Unit can assist members in returning to school or finding paid job opportunities. Skills such as resume writing and interviewing are taught.
  4. Wellness Programs – Educational speakers on topics like diabetes, high blood pressure have given presentations. The members also engage in exercise and Health & Wellness Jeopardy.
